Freedom Jam returns..

The past few years have been a struggling episode for live music in Bangalore. What with the hasty laws by the govt., moral policing and of course, recession!

Last year, many fans were disappointed when the annual music festival, Bangalore GIR, JRO or I-Rock, Freedom Jam was postponed indefinitely and eventually cancelled in November. For months, rumours were spread regarding the happening of an event that everyone looked forward to. Back in the old times, Freedom Jam was a true festival of colours, of different styles of music. People in black arrived at the venue at 6 PM prepared to face a whole night of music to wake in the early hours of Independence Day, celebrating an event that took place half a century ago.

Today, only 3 weeks away from that very same holiday, we are glad to hear that Freedom Jam is back after it's break last year. Things have changed and FJ is no more the all night experience it used to be, but it still stands solely for the purpose of celebrating live original music. At this point with the response of people hearing of the return of Freedom Jam, everyone is missing the old days of pulling off a musical all-nighter. And in those cries of people, we want to question - Should Freedom Jam be held in the Madison Square Garden or would it do fine just under a tree?
